It’s the feeling that hits you when you enter this stunning apartment. Floor to celing windows, clean lines, and open space. The rooms flow one into the next. Tasteful furniture and elegant touches blend harmoniously with marble floors and sparkling chandeliers. It’s such a clean and tastefully sparse look, it comes as a bit of surprise to learn that this posh apartment is loaded with automated technology.
When it comes to both the smartest and the most challenging aspects of the project, Knektd cites the owner’s request for hiding all the technology. Throughout the home there are various bespoke moving panels hiding complemented into the interiors, on command the Damien Hurst in the Reception room reveals a 55” BeoVision Avant 4K TV, but not only does the picture reveal the TV but once it is fully risen an automated arm extends to reveal the TV and a speaker drops down for the ideal viewing position in the room.
There are automated blinds and shades in the system and they are programmed to move throughout the day. The blinds go down as the sun sets, and once the sun has set, the shades go up. Then, in the evening, the blinds lower for privacy. And these blinds are intelligent enough to adjust to the light levels: however the shades can be controlled manually of the pre engraved keypads.
The integrated HVAC is switched automatically by the BMS. The heating and AC is automatically adjusted depending on the outside temperature. Now here’s how Knektd made a smart home even smarter. The Knektd crew took great pains to make sure the technology stayed hidden—speakers were hidden within the ceilings and walls.
Bedside keypads were built right into the millwork of the bed frame—an easy place to hit “All Off” before going to sleep. Several rooms sport motion detectors—you walk into a room, and lights brighten automatically. Entering the office triggers the lights, and the TV turns on to a pre-selected channel. Upon selecting “Evening,” the lighting is set up to make the house look amazing.

The owners wanted automation to be present and accessible throughout the space but not the focal point of the rooms, for sophistication and simplicity, so the Knektd team naturally turned to Crestron technology. Without the Crestron system, the family would have myriad sub-systems to learn how to use. By combining these systems into bespoke user Interface, they can operate them all with absolute simplicity. More than this, it means that the beautiful interior design of the property is freed from all the unsightly electronics that they would have had without the Crestron touch panels.
This residence is a great example of how much automation can be going on behind the scenes. Everything that can be controlled is controlled, but it’s not in your face. It blends nicely with the style of the apartment.
